Coat of Arms

OBJECTIVE

Design a “coat of arms” representative of the designer. It can be a stand in for their personality, aesthetic style, philosophy, values, etc. Must be visually interesting, abstract, and systematic. Final design should approximately fit within the bounds of a 5.5×5.5 in. square or 5.5 in. diameter circle.

PROCESS

This is an advanced take on an exercise that I learned early in my design education. I used point, line, and plane to create gradients and emphasize focal points as well as emphasize my personal aesthetic style.

It uses a system of white space, geometric shapes, and gradients to draw attention to the desired focal point towards the upper-right. After fitting my design into a 5.5 in. square, I rotated it 45 degrees to create a diamond composition that supports the triangular elements that are prominent in the illustration.
